Utilizing The Two-Way Audio on Revolabs Microphones

My travels as a Field Sales Engineer have taken me to a wide variety of installations of Revolabs products.  Whether it be a divisible multi-purpose room at a high powered law firm in the heart of Manhattan, or a boardroom outside Cleveland that actually had lasers installed in the ceiling to guide users on where to place an HD directional mic on the table (cue Dr. Evil “All I want is a boardroom with some  lasers…”), there is no shortage of unique conferencing spaces I have seen.  Part of what makes my job so fun is that I get to design and see many flavors of deployments of our product line.

There is one feature of our products that I don’t see used too often, but when I do it is always in creative and interesting ways – the two way audio*.  Did you know that you can send an audio mix back IN to any of our microphones?  Take a quick look on the bottom of the mic down by where you insert it in to the charger.  You’ll see a 2.5mm unbalanced output that can be fed in to an earpiece.

Now take a look at the back of one of our HD Executive receivers and you’ll see an INPUT for each channel.  This is where you connect your incoming audio and send it gets sent wirelessly to the mic paired to that channel. 

Where would you use this?  Well, translation and hearing assist applications that need to satisfy ADA compliance are the first to come to mind.  But those certainly aren’t the end of where I’ve seen it used.  There’s a nuclear power plant down south using the two way audio in meltdown training simulators.  The instructors in a separate room with one way glass can look AND listen in on what the students are saying to each other through their HD wearable mics.  A teaching hospital in Boston has Fusions mounted in some ambulances used for training so that the instructor can hear what is being said over loud sirens as they cruise through the city.  I even found a Sim Man (medical human simulator) hanging out in with an omni mic in an OR simulator lab at a large hospital in Ohio.

The mix of the omnis in the room were being sent in to a wearable being worn by one of the nurse instructors who was watching from a control room and would periodically come in to the simulator to interact with the students.
